Key storylines & star players
West Ham’s saving grace has been David Moyes’ reliably sturdy defensive foundation (12 goals conceded in 11 games, 5th-fewest in the PL). Though they have kept just two clean sheets this season, the defense has kept West Ham in games when they struggled to put their own chances away. Gianluca Scamacca, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio each have two goals to their name thus far, as Moyes continues to search for the system which best suits his side.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, have been woefully inept when in possession of the ball, yet they somehow sit mid-table ahead of Monday’s clash. The Cherries average 0.63 xG per 90 minutes this season, which is the lowest total in the league by some margin (Wolves – 0.89 per 90). There are currently six sides in the PL averaging less than 1.0 xG per 90. West Ham, it should be noted, are not among them (1.27).

West Ham United v AFC Bournemouth
Premier League, London Stadium, Monday 24 October 2022, 8pm BST
West Ham United's 2022/23 Premier League campaign continues with a Monday Night Football clash with AFC Bournemouth at London Stadium.
David Moyes' side will seek to return to winning ways after seeing a five-match unbeaten run in all competitions ended in frustrating fashion at Liverpool on Wednesday evening.
The Irons kicked-off the weekend in 13th place, with eleven points from eleven matches played, and could rise into the top ten with victory and if results elsewhere go the Londoners' way.
The Cherries are being led by interim head coach Gary O'Neil, who was part of West Ham's promotion-winning team in 2011/12 and spent two-and-a-half seasons in Claret and Blue.
His Bournemouth team saw a six-match unbeaten run ended with a 1-0 home defeat by Southampton in midweek. That result left the visitors 12th in the table, two points and one place above the Hammers.

Opposition...
After AFC Bournemouth were beaten 9-0 by Liverpool in August, the Cherries went six games unbeaten in the Premier League.
The performances and results of the past seven games have been in stark contrast to that humbling day at Anfield and have shown Bournemouth have enough in their ranks to retain their Premier League status this term.
Back in the top-flight for the 2022/23 season, the Dorset club’s first taste of Premier League football came in 2015. Under their former defender and current Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe, the Cherries journeyed from League Two to the top-flight in six years. In their first season in the Premier League, Bournemouth battled to survive relegation – a feat they repeated in the next four campaigns – in style, playing a buccaneering style.
They would, however, fall back to the second-tier. When relegation to the EFL Championship came in 2019/20 amid the COVID pandemic, it ended Howe’s stay at the club by mutual consent.
After an unsuccessful first attempt by Howe’s long-time assistant Jason Tindall, then a second by former England defender Jonathan Woodgate, Bournemouth achieved automatic promotion to the Premier League in the summer. With Scott Parker at helm, the Cherries were triumphant in 25 league matches last season and finished second to Fulham, conceding the fewest goals in the division.
West Ham United v AFC Bournemouth
However, when defensive stability was challenged in the opening matches of the 2022/23 season, with the Cherries shipping four goals at Manchester City, three more at Arsenal and then nine at Liverpool, Parker departed.
Many clubs would have crumbled, not used it as a springboard as Bournemouth have seemingly done.
O’Neil was installed as Interim Head Coach and has set about his work in a typically understated fashion. The former Middlesbrough, West Ham and Norwich City man has beaten Leicester City and Nottingham Forest, while his Bournemouth have also drawn against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brentford, Newcastle and Fulham.
Of note is that the victory over Leicester at the Vitality Stadium was watched by prospective new owner Bill Foley. It has been reported that the purchase deal between Foley and current owner Maxim Demin has been agreed. The American billionaire now waits for Premier League approval. Then, his AFC Bournemouth masterplan – one that involves twin clubs in France and Belgium, as well as a transformation of Vitality Stadium – can get underway.
Foley will be pleased with the recent run of form. And as the Cherries head to the London Stadium, the task of staying in the top-flight – something that will be crucial to the prospective owner’s plans – is a lot closer thanks to the work of O’Neil. They are over 30% of the way to the magical 40-point mark.
Previous Meetings...
West Ham United meet AFC Bournemouth for the eleventh time in the Premier League on Monday evening.
The Hammers have won three to Bournemouth's four, with three draws. Each club has recorded two home wins in five attempts.
The Irons took four points from the two meetings in the Cherries' most-recent season in the Premier League, 2019/20, including a 4-0 home win in David Moyes' first game of his second spell as manager on New Year's Day 2020.
Prior to the Premier League, West Ham overcame then-third tier Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic in the pair's first meeting, in the FA Cup fifth-round back in February 1929.
And the two clubs met in the old Second Division in 1989/90, when Harry Redknapp was Bournemouth manager, and the Londoners secured a League Cup third-round success over the Dorset club in October 1999.
Match Officials...
Referee: David Coote
Assistants: Neil Davies & Nick Hopton
Fourth official: Craig Pawson
VAR: Mike Dean
Assistant VAR: Daniel Bobathan
David Coote is Monday’s referee.
Affiliated to the Nottinghamshire FA, David Coote began refereeing at the age of 16 and worked his way up through the Notts Alliance League, Northern Counties East Football League, the Northern Premier League and the Conference North.
He was promoted to the Football League List of assistant referees in 2006, and again to the referees’ list in 2010. Coote refereed the 2014 League One Play-Off final at Wembley, which saw Rotherham United defeat Leyton Orient.
The official, whose father played cricket for Nottinghamshire, was appointed to the Select Group of Premier League officials in the summer of 2018.
He has taken charge of eight West Ham United matches in the Premier League, the most recent of which was the 1-0 win at Aston Villa in August this year.
In the Premier League rankings, Bournemouth is presently in 13th position and has had a decent year thus far. Last week, the away team suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Southampton and will need to recover in this match.
On the other side, West Ham United has failed to find its footing in the league and is now sitting in 14th position. The Hammers have something to prove this week after losing to Liverpool by a score of 1-0 in their last match.
West Ham United Vs Bournemouth Prediction
After a sluggish start to the year, West Ham United has improved and is starting to find its footing under David Moyes. The likes of Gianluca Scamacca and Jarrod Bowen, who have already showed hints of their promise, are determined to make a name for themselves this weekend.
On their best days, Bournemouth is more than capable of causing an unexpected upset. On paper, West Ham United is the superior team, therefore they ought to be able to win this match.
West Ham United Vs Bournemouth Head-To-Head
In the 15 games played between the two teams, West Ham United has a strong record and has won six of them, compared to Bournemouth’s four triumphs.
Under David Moyes, West Ham United has never lost against Bournemouth and defeated the Cherries in their previous Premier League matchup in 2020.
From 2015 to 2020, during Bournemouth’s first season in the Premier League, they defeated West Ham United 15 times, more than any other team.
